Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a sensational performance in India’s Under-19 Asia Cup opener against UAE, scoring a blistering 171 off just 95 balls. The young prodigy fell just six runs short of Ambati Rayudu’s long-standing India record in youth one-day internationals, set in 2002 against England in Taunton.
The under-15 sensation smashed nine fours and 14 sixes during his innings before being bowled while attempting a paddle in the 33rd over. India, after being put into bat, posted a massive total of 433 for 6. UAE could only manage 199 for 7 in response, handing India a 234-run victory. Suryavanshi’s heroics earned him the Player of the Match award.
Suryavanshi’s Record-Breaking Feats
Last month, Suryavanshi had already made headlines with a 42-ball 144 against UAE at the Rising Stars Asia Cup in Doha. He reached his century off just 32 deliveries, marking the joint-sixth-fastest century in all men’s T20s and the joint-third-fastest for an Indian.
He also became the youngest century-maker in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring an unbeaten 108 off 61 balls. These performances have cemented his place as a key contender for the upcoming Under-19 World Cup in Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Suryavanshi had a breakthrough year in 2025, becoming the youngest player to score an IPL century, smashing 101 off 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans. Having been the youngest pick in the IPL auction earlier that year at just 13, he featured in seven matches as an opener, scoring 252 runs at an incredible strike rate of 206.55.
He also impressed on international tours with the India Under-19 team in England and Australia, scoring a 78-ball century in a four-day match in Brisbane and finishing as the second-highest run-scorer in the multi-day series against Australia Under-19s. Earlier, he had scored 355 runs at a strike rate of 174.01 in one-dayers against England Under-19s.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s remarkable consistency and record-breaking performances have already marked him as one of India’s brightest young cricketing talents. With the Under-19 World Cup on the horizon, cricket fans around the world will be eagerly watching his next exploits.
