Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has long been a topic of debate among cricket fans, whether for his batting form or his leadership skills. However, many fans know little about his personal life and ambitions outside cricket. Recently, Surya opened up on Express Adda, sharing insights into his mindset, upbringing, and future plans.
Unlike some of his teammates, such as Harbhajan Singh and Jasprit Bumrah, who have joked about having unconventional backup plans like driving trucks overseas, Suryakumar revealed that he never considered such alternatives.
“Nothing of that sort came to my mind ever,” he said. “But I always felt that I could have been a good businessman. My parents would always say I have a sharp mind for business. I have shared my knowledge of business with some people, and they liked it. If I wasn’t playing cricket, then business.”
Surya also reflected on his childhood and how he convinced his academically-oriented family to support his cricketing dreams.
“They gave me the best education till Class 12. But when they saw that I was serious about sports, they started supporting me. Everybody in my family is from an academic background; it was a difficult decision for them,” he shared.

When asked about his financial goals, the 35-year-old was refreshingly straightforward.
“For me, it was simple. This life was given to me by my parents. So I must earn enough to take care of them, get married and have children. And I should be able to own a good car. Rest all is moh maaya.”
He also spoke candidly about handling criticism, emphasizing honesty from those close to him.
“I go to the mirror. If it does not answer, I have a wife at home who tells the truth.”
Currently, the Indian team is competing in a Test series against South Africa, with the T20I matches coming up soon, where Suryakumar will be a key player once again.
