Steve Smith has once again cemented his legacy as one of the greatest Test batters of this century. The Australian maestro delivered another masterclass during the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final against South Africa at Lord’s, breaking a long-standing record in the process.

Coming into the final in red-hot form, Smith had already scored four centuries in his previous five Tests. His track record at Lord’s was nothing short of stellar—averaging 58 before the match—with scores of 110, 34, 92, 215, and 58 in his last five innings at the iconic venue.

On the day of the final, Smith added another fifty-plus score to his name, and with it, etched his name into the history books. He surpassed legendary names like Sir Don Bradman, Sir Gary Sobers, and Warren Bardsley to become the highest-scoring visiting batter in Test matches at Lord’s, reaching a remarkable 576 runs at the ground.

Here’s how the all-time list now stands for most runs by a visiting (non-English) batter in Tests at Lord’s:

  • 576 – Steve Smith*
  • 575 – Warren Bardsley
  • 571 – Gary Sobers
  • 551 – Don Bradman

First Batter with Multiple Fifty-Plus Scores in WTC Finals

Smith didn’t just stop at breaking one record. With his latest half-century, he also became the first and only player in Test history to register multiple fifty-plus scores in World Test Championship finals—another testament to his consistency on the grandest stage.

Additionally, Smith joined another elite list, becoming only the second visiting batter to notch five or more fifty-plus scores at Lord’s in Test history. The only other batter to achieve this feat is West Indies great Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

From Bradman to Sobers, many legends have graced the turf at Lord’s, but Steve Smith now stands above them all as the most prolific overseas scorer in Test history at the Home of Cricket.
