The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided a third medical update on Shreyas Iyer’s condition following his serious injury during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025. The update assures fans that Iyer is “medically stable and recovering well” after suffering a significant blow to his lower rib cage while fielding.

Shreyas Iyer Suffers Spleen Injury in Dramatic On-Field Incident

Iyer’s injury occurred when he took a diving catch to dismiss Australian batter Alex Carey. However, he landed awkwardly on his left side, immediately clutching his abdomen in pain. Iyer was quickly rushed off the field and taken to a hospital in Sydney, where scans confirmed a laceration to his spleen and internal bleeding. Given the severity of the injury, Iyer was kept in the intensive care unit (ICU) for observation as a precautionary measure.

According to the BCCI’s latest update, the Indian batter’s condition has improved significantly. “The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation,” the statement read. A repeat scan on October 28 showed significant improvement, and the team is optimistic about his recovery.

Shreyas Iyer’s Recovery and Monitoring

While Iyer’s injury is serious, the medical team is confident in his recovery. The BCCI confirmed that Iyer is under continuous care, with specialists both in Sydney and India monitoring his condition closely. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney to evaluate his progress on a daily basis.

Although no specific timeline has been provided for his return to competitive cricket, the BCCI emphasized that any decision regarding his comeback will depend on his recovery. Due to the delicate nature of the injury, Iyer’s rehabilitation will be gradual, and his return to the field will only be cleared once he has fully recovered.

Fans and cricket lovers alike have expressed their support for the 28-year-old, who is a key player for India. As his recovery continues, the Indian cricket team and BCCI remain committed to ensuring his health and safety come first before any future cricket commitments.
