India’s top-order stars, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, delivered stellar performances in the third One-Day International (ODI) against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on October 25. Their partnership helped India secure a nine-wicket victory, avoiding a series whitewash.

Rohit Sharma’s Form and Fitness Stand Out

Rohit Sharma was in sublime form, scoring an unbeaten 121 to anchor India’s innings. Former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin highlighted Rohit’s improved fitness and lean physique as a key reason for his success. “What stuck out with Rohit is that he looked proper fit and lean. That is why he is able to get those runs and get going. Even while running with Gill, he wanted a third run, but Gill refused. The quality of batting is always there, but if you are fit, you lose weight, you are able to feel light, and skill will take over. Rohit is looking a million dollars. He is looking all set and poised,” Ashwin said, according to the Times of India.

Virat Kohli Enjoys the Moment

Virat Kohli contributed 74 not out, his only runs in the series, and played with apparent joy and freedom at the crease. Ashwin praised Kohli’s mindset, noting that the batter seemed to be enjoying this phase of his career. “The straight drive he played was a sight to behold. All his fans will be very happy today. Virat looked like he is properly enjoying himself. I think it is in his mind now that whatever he is playing now is a real gift for him, and he has to enjoy this phase of his career. The whole stadium was clapping for him when he took the first single,” he added.

Together, Rohit and Kohli shared a 168-run partnership for the second wicket, setting up India’s comfortable chase and showcasing their world-class batting prowess. With this win, India salvaged pride and avoided a series sweep against a strong Australian side.
