India’s dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh has credited head coach Amol Muzumdar for inspiring her fearless approach during India’s triumphant World Cup campaign. The 22-year-old, who hit the most sixes (12) in the tournament, played crucial knocks in both knockout matches against Australia and South Africa.

Richa revealed that Muzumdar’s clear communication and confidence in her abilities gave her the freedom to play her natural game. Speaking on Star Sports’ Follow The Blues, she shared how the coach’s simple yet powerful guidance made a big impact.

“Amol sir made everyone’s role in the team very clear. For me, it was simple: play fearless cricket, look for big shots, and finish the innings strongly. He assured me that it was okay to take a little time to settle in. That trust helped me express myself freely at the crease,” Richa said, as quoted by The Indian Express.

Focused Preparation Before the World Cup

Ahead of the tournament, Richa focused on improving her shot selection and consistency rather than just power-hitting. She worked on building her innings patiently and keeping the scoreboard moving with smart singles.

“Whenever I got the chance to play, I concentrated on grounded shots and avoiding rash dismissals. My aim was to rotate the strike and anchor one end,” she explained.

Her main goal, she added, was to finish the innings strongly, ensuring a high strike rate in the final overs to put pressure on the opposition.

“My job was to score quickly towards the end and help the team post a strong total. Those extra runs make a big difference and ease the pressure on our bowlers,” Richa noted.

Jhulan Goswami’s Lasting Influence

Richa also expressed heartfelt gratitude to former India pacer Jhulan Goswami, who has been her mentor since her early days in Bengal cricket.

“Jhulan didi has been a huge influence on my journey. She was my captain when I debuted for Bengal and has guided me ever since. She taught me how to adapt my game to different situations and always encouraged me to keep improving,” she said.

Richa Ghosh’s performances in the World Cup reflect her maturity, power, and composure under pressure—qualities shaped by strong mentorship, clear communication, and her own hard work. With the backing of Muzumdar and guidance from Goswami, India’s young star looks set to continue shining brightly on the world stage.
