Former India head coach and cricket legend, Rahul Dravid, recently shared his love for Punjabi music during an episode of Breakfast With Champions. Known for his calm demeanor and impressive cricketing skills, Dravid got candid about his evolving taste in music and the players who are responsible for setting the mood in the Indian dressing room.
Dravid Talks About His Love for Punjabi Music
In a fun-filled conversation with host Gaurav Kapur, Rahul Dravid spoke about how his appreciation for Punjabi music grew during his time with the national team. The iconic batter revealed that songs from popular Punjabi artists like Shubh and the late Sidhu Moosewala were a staple in the team’s dressing room playlist. “These guys talk about his songs. And the guy who unfortunately got killed (Sidhu Moosewala). I think there are a lot of his songs that I like,” Dravid mentioned.
Dravid, who is known for his humble and down-to-earth personality, also emphasized that his knowledge of Hindi and music was always strong, despite coming from Bangalore. He playfully clarified, “Hindi achi phle si thi yaar, aisi baat nahi hai. Aisi baat nahi hai ki Bangalore se hai toh Hindi nahi aati, aise mat bolo (My Hindi was good even earlier, it’s not like that. It’s not like just because I’m from Bangalore, I don’t know Hindi—don’t say that).” He also acknowledged that his exposure to Punjabi music had undoubtedly improved over the years.
Indian Dressing Room’s Playlist and the Players in Charge of Music
When asked about who controls the music in the Indian dressing room, Dravid revealed that headphones have become the go-to for most players these days. However, he did highlight that some players have a particularly strong taste in music.
“On the boombox, Rishabh Pant plays good songs. Arshdeep Singh plays it well too – he has good taste in music,” Dravid shared. He also mentioned that Hardik Pandya can bring a lot of energy to the dressing room with his choice of tracks, while Virat Kohli is known for being a phenomenal mimic, though he doesn’t do it as often anymore.
Despite the modern trend of personal headphones, it’s clear that the Indian cricket team has a varied and eclectic taste in music, with players like Pant, Arshdeep, and Pandya making sure the mood stays upbeat.
Dravid’s comments give fans a unique insight into the camaraderie of the Indian cricket team, showing that even legends like him enjoy the occasional music break in between intense matches and training sessions.
