India opener Prithvi Shaw has officially requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), signaling his intent to move on from Mumbai’s domestic cricket setup. The 25-year-old is reportedly eyeing opportunities to represent another state in the Indian domestic circuit as a professional.

Prithvi Shaw Set to Leave Mumbai Cricket After Being Dropped

Shaw, who has been part of Mumbai cricket since his early years, has not featured in the state’s squad since December 2024. He was dropped from the Ranji Trophy team and also excluded from Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad. To add to his recent struggles, Shaw went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction—an indicator that his stock has fallen in recent months.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, MCA secretary Abhay Hadap confirmed the development:

“He has just sent us a letter seeking NOC. We have informed the Apex Council members. We will issue the NOC soon.”

Shaw’s departure is likely to be one of the most high-profile moves in the domestic circuit this year. The right-handed opener has received interest from multiple state teams, with three to four associations reportedly in the race to sign him as a professional player.

Shaw Cites Career Growth in His Request Letter

In his letter to the Mumbai Cricket Association, Shaw expressed that the decision to move on was driven by the desire for personal and professional development.

“At this juncture of my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to my growth and development as a cricketer,” Shaw wrote.

He added,

“In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new state association in the upcoming domestic season.”

The MCA is expected to approve the request soon, paving the way for Shaw to start a new chapter in his career. While his future team is yet to be confirmed, his potential switch will undoubtedly be watched closely by fans and selectors alike.
