Once celebrated as the future of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw has faced a tough fall from grace. His journey, marked by early brilliance and later marred by off-field distractions, poor form, and fitness concerns, has become a cautionary tale. Now, after going unsold in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction and being dropped from Mumbai’s domestic setup, Shaw has broken his silence — admitting where things went wrong and how he plans to make a comeback.
Wrong Friends, Poor Decisions, and the Cost of Distraction
Prithvi Shaw rose to fame quickly. With a Test century on debut at just 18, he was compared to greats and carried the hopes of a cricket-crazy nation. But in a recent interview with News24, Shaw opened up about how things began to spiral.
“I made a lot of wrong decisions in life,” he admitted. “I started giving less time to cricket. I used to practice for 3–4 hours a day and never got tired of batting. But then distractions crept in.”
Shaw candidly explained how friendships made during his peak became a problem. “They took me here and there… that’s when I lost my way,” he said. He also revealed that he started focusing on things that didn’t matter, slowly drifting from the discipline that once defined him.
Adding to his challenges were personal tragedies. The passing of his grandfather, someone Shaw held dear, deeply affected him. “There are a lot of things I can’t tell you, but I can feel them,” he shared, highlighting the emotional weight he’s been carrying.
From Setback to Comeback: Shaw’s New Beginning
The past year hasn’t been kind to Shaw. He was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad in late 2024 and left out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Seeking a fresh start, he requested and reportedly received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to play for another state.
But Shaw insists that he’s now focused and realigned with his roots.
“I am on track now. I’ve gone back to the basics. The hard work I used to do five years ago — I’ve started that again,” he said. “I believe in myself. I don’t know how many people do, but I do.”
This renewed focus on discipline and training may be his best shot at redemption. In his words, he’s practicing with the same hunger that once made him a youth sensation.
