Former India opener Prithvi Shaw has officially made a fresh start in his cricketing career by parting ways with Mumbai and joining the Maharashtra cricket team for the upcoming domestic season. The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed the move on Monday, July 7.

This shift marks a new chapter for the 24-year-old, who had requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association last month. Shaw reportedly received multiple offers from other states to join as a professional player before finalizing his move to Maharashtra.

Shaw’s Statement on the Move

Speaking on his decision, Shaw expressed gratitude to Mumbai while sharing his excitement about joining Maharashtra:

“At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer. I am deeply grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for the opportunities and support I have received over the years,” Shaw said.

He also added that playing alongside talented cricketers like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ankit Bawne, Rahul Tripathi, Rajneesh Gurbani, and Mukesh Choudhary will have a positive impact on his cricketing journey.

A New Chapter After Recent Setbacks

Once considered the future of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw’s career has faced multiple hurdles, including form slumps, fitness concerns, and disciplinary issues. These challenges led to his exclusion from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team last year, with his last appearance for the side coming in December 2024. He was also left out of Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad and went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The move to Maharashtra is being seen as a fresh opportunity for the right-handed batsman to rejuvenate his domestic career and push for a return to the national fold.

MCA Welcomes Shaw With Open Arms

MCA President Rohit Pawar expressed optimism about Shaw’s addition to the squad, stating:

“We are delighted to welcome a player of Prithvi Shaw’s calibre to the Maharashtra team. His international and IPL experience will be invaluable, especially for mentoring younger players in the squad. The Maharashtra Cricket Association stands firmly behind Prithvi in his new journey and wishes him the very best for the seasons ahead.”

With a new team and renewed focus, all eyes will be on Prithvi Shaw to see if he can reclaim the promise that once made him one of India’s most exciting young talents.
