India opener Pratika Rawal has finally been awarded her winner’s medal from the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup, weeks after missing out during the official presentation ceremony. The young opener, who played a crucial role in India’s title-winning campaign, had initially been left without a medal due to tournament regulations.

Rawal was part of India’s original 15-member squad but suffered an ankle injury during the final group-stage match against Bangladesh, which forced her withdrawal before the semi-final. Under the ICC’s rules, only players listed in the final declared squad are eligible for medals, which meant Rawal did not receive one during the trophy presentation.

However, her wait has finally ended — thanks to the personal intervention of ICC Chairman Jay Shah.

Jay Shah Steps In to Ensure Rawal Gets Her Medal

According to Pratika’s father, Pradeep Rawal, Jay Shah personally reached out to the family.
“Jay Shah personally texted us and said that he had spoken to the ICC, and that we would receive the medal. Pratika received the medal before meeting Prime Minister Modi. Jay Shah took the initiative himself and personally informed Pratika,” he told India Today.

Rawal was later seen proudly wearing her medal during the team photograph with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu, where the Indian women’s cricket team was felicitated for their World Cup triumph.

Pratika Rawal’s Stellar Performance in the World Cup

Despite missing the knockout stages, Pratika Rawal’s performances throughout the tournament were instrumental in India’s success. She scored 308 runs in six innings at an average of 51.33 and a strike rate of 77.77.

Her standout performance came against New Zealand, where she struck her maiden World Cup century in a record 212-run opening stand with Smriti Mandhana, a partnership that revived India’s campaign after a shaky start.

Although she wasn’t on the field during the final, Rawal’s teammates ensured her contribution was recognized. She joined them in all post-match celebrations and the victory events in New Delhi, symbolizing the unity and spirit that defined India’s World Cup-winning journey.

Pratika Rawal’s story highlights resilience, sportsmanship, and the importance of recognizing every player’s contribution — both on and off the field.
