Pakistan secured a 2-1 series victory in the three-match T20I series against West Indies after winning the final game by 13 runs at Lauderhill, Florida, on Sunday, August 3. However, the celebration was dampened by an injury to senior batter Fakhar Zaman, who has been ruled out of the rest of the tour.
Fakhar Zaman Ruled Out After Hamstring Injury
The 35-year-old left-hander pulled a hamstring during the second T20I while fielding in the 19th over of West Indies’ innings. He was chasing a ball in the outfield when the injury occurred. Following a medical assessment, team doctors confirmed a mild strain to his left hamstring, which made him unavailable for the series decider.
Zaman had been part of Pakistan’s playing XI in the first two T20Is, scoring 28 and 20 runs respectively. However, due to the injury, he was replaced by Khushdil Shah for the third and final match of the series.
Recovery and Return to Pakistan
With the injury ruling him out of the upcoming ODI series in Trinidad and Tobago, Zaman will return home to Pakistan on August 4. He is set to begin rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.
As of now, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not announced whether a replacement will be named for the one-day internationals. The senior men’s selection committee is yet to make a final call.
Pakistan will now shift focus to the three-match ODI series, hoping to carry their momentum forward despite missing one of their seasoned players.
