England Women’s T20I campaign against India has taken another major hit as their captain, Nat Sciver-Brunt, has been ruled out of the third T20I at The Oval. The star all-rounder sustained a groin injury during the second match of the series, and her availability for the remaining games is now uncertain.

Tammy Beaumont to Lead England Women for the First Time

With Sciver-Brunt sidelined, experienced batter Tammy Beaumont will take over as captain for the third T20I. Despite her vast international experience—having played 106 T20Is and 246 matches overall—this will be Beaumont’s first time captaining England at the international level.

Beaumont’s leadership comes at a crucial point in the series, as England are currently trailing 0-2 in the five-match T20I series. The team suffered a heavy 97-run loss in the first match, followed by a 24-run defeat in the second T20I.

Injury Update and Squad News

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that the results of Sciver-Brunt’s scan will determine whether she can return later in the series. The fourth T20I is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, at Emirates Old Trafford.

To bolster the squad, Maia Bouchier has been called up as cover for the injured Sciver-Brunt. The team will be hoping for a turnaround under Beaumont’s leadership when they face India in the third T20I tomorrow at The Oval.

With England needing a win to stay alive in the series, all eyes will be on the new skipper and how the side responds to adversity.
