Narayan Jagadeesan’s stellar run with the bat shows no signs of slowing down. On September 4 (Thursday), the Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter scored yet another brilliant century—this time for South Zone against North Zone—cementing his status as one of the most in-form players in Indian red-ball cricket.

Opening the innings alongside Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal, Jagadeesan showcased his class and control at the crease. He reached three figures with style, striking ten boundaries and clearing the ropes twice. This latest ton adds to an already impressive record that has made him a standout performer in domestic cricket over the past few seasons.

Red-Ball Consistency Backed by Impressive Numbers

Jagadeesan has consistently delivered in red-ball cricket, especially in the Ranji Trophy. Over the last two seasons, he has amassed more than 1400 runs for Tamil Nadu. In the 2024 Ranji Trophy, he racked up 674 runs at a phenomenal average of 56.17, including an unbeaten 118*. In the previous season, he created history by scoring 321 runs—the highest-ever individual score by a Tamil Nadu batter in Ranji Trophy history.

Although he had a quieter outing in the 2024 Duleep Trophy, managing just 88 runs in the entire competition, the 29-year-old has bounced back emphatically in the 2025 edition. His recent hundred is a strong statement of intent and a timely reminder of his value to any red-ball side.

Jagadeesan Leads Wicketkeeper Batters Since 2023

Since the start of 2023, no other wicketkeeper-batter in India has scored more red-ball runs than Jagadeesan. With a tally of 1,648 runs, he leads the charts, ahead of Vidarbha’s Akshay Wadkar (1,505). In terms of centuries, only Madhya Pradesh’s Himanshu Mantri has matched his feat with five hundreds during the same period.

His consistent performances have not gone unnoticed. Jagadeesan received a well-deserved call-up to the Indian Test squad for the fifth Test against England at The Oval. With the red-ball calendar heating up, the Tamil Nadu star looks set to play a bigger role on the national stage in the near future.

Jagadeesan’s form, grit, and hunger for runs make him a strong contender for India’s long-term wicketkeeping future in Test cricket. If his current run continues, it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a mainstay in the national side.
