India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the squad ahead of the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval, as part of workload management. Bumrah, who featured in the first three Tests of the series, had his availability carefully planned to maintain fitness ahead of a packed cricket calendar. The decision to rest him was made before the series began, and he has now headed home.
Siraj’s Emotional Message to Bumrah
Bumrah’s absence was felt immediately by his pace partner and close friend, Mohammed Siraj. The duo has shared many memorable moments on the field, forging a strong bond both on and off the pitch. Speaking in a video posted by the BCCI, Siraj recalled an emotional exchange with Bumrah:
“I told Jasprit Bumrah, ‘Why are you leaving? Whom would I hug after taking five wickets?’”
Bumrah responded with a smile: “I’ll be here. You just take the five.”
Siraj came close to fulfilling that promise on Day 2 of the Test, finishing with figures of 4 for 86. His spell included the key dismissals of Joe Root and Harry Brook, playing a crucial role in dismantling the English batting order.
Indian Pace Unit Looking Strong and United
India’s pace attack continues to impress with its depth and cohesion. Alongside Siraj, Prasidh Krishna also shone with four wickets, and spoke about the strong bond forming within the group:
“Siraj and I have been playing together for five years, including in the IPL. We talk a lot off the field. Same with Akash Deep — the fast bowling group is looking really sharp,” Prasidh said.
Their combined efforts restricted England to 247 in their first innings, just slightly ahead of India’s 224. With Yashasvi Jaiswal standing firm on 51*, India will begin Day 3 with a valuable 52-run lead.
