Not Part of India’s Test Squad, But Making Headlines in England
Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan might not be featuring in the five-match Test series against England, but he’s certainly making the most of his time in the UK. The dynamic wicketkeeper-batter, who represents Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, is currently playing for Nottinghamshire in the 2025 County Championship—and he’s become a fan favorite already.
The 27-year-old recently stole the spotlight in match 74 of the Championship against Somerset at Taunton. Known more for his explosive batting and sharp glovework, Kishan took everyone by surprise by rolling his arm over for a single over of unorthodox bowling that had both the crowd and social media buzzing.
A Comedic Bowling Over: Off-Spin, Medium Pace & Leg Spin
In a video shared by Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and the official County Championship social media handles, Ishan Kishan delivered a unique over that paid homage to cricketing legends.
He began with off-spin, channeling India great Harbhajan Singh. Then, switching gears, he tried to mimic MS Dhoni’s rare medium pace deliveries—clearly a nod to his former Jharkhand and India captain. To top it off, he gave leg spin a go, imitating the legendary Shane Warne. His final delivery of the over was extremely wide, but in a humorous twist, the umpire chose not to signal it.
Kishan bowled only that single over, but his antics became an instant hit among fans and brought an unexpected moment of joy to the game.
Strong Start with the Bat in County Cricket
While his bowling caught attention for its entertainment value, Ishan Kishan’s performances with the bat have been just as impressive—albeit in a more serious manner. In two matches for Nottinghamshire so far, he has already registered two fifties, scoring 87 and 77 in two innings. His contributions have given his team solid starts and showcased his adaptability in English conditions.
Kishan joined Nottinghamshire after completing his duties with the India A side in their series against England Lions in June. This County stint marks his first-ever overseas contract, a major step in broadening his experience and sharpening his skills outside the Indian circuit.
As he continues to enjoy his cricket in England, Ishan Kishan is proving that even when he’s not in the national spotlight, he knows how to entertain and perform—whether with the bat or a cheeky over of “all-style” bowling.
