The IPL 2025 playoffs continue to deliver surprises as Mumbai Indians (MI) make another change to their playing XI ahead of the crucial Qualifier 2 clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Reece Topley Replaces Injured Richard Gleeson in MI Line-Up

Mumbai Indians have handed a debut to England pacer Reece Topley, who comes in as a like-for-like replacement for the injured Richard Gleeson. Gleeson, who was brought in for Deepak Chahar in the Eliminator against Gujarat Titans, is now sidelined, prompting MI to draft in Topley for this do-or-die encounter.

Topley, 31, was picked up by MI for INR 75 lakh at the mega auction and previously played five IPL matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Ironically, his IPL debut came against MI in the 2023 season. His inclusion adds left-arm pace variety to MI’s already strong pace attack featuring Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult.

This change is the only alteration in MI’s starting XI as they aim for a spot in the IPL 2025 final.

Chahal Boosts PBKS Bowling Attack Ahead of High-Stakes Clash

For Punjab Kings, the big news is the return of Yuzvendra Chahal to the playing XI. The seasoned leg-spinner had missed the last three matches due to a wrist injury but is now fit and raring to go. Chahal replaces left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar, bringing experience and a proven match-winning pedigree back into PBKS’ spin attack.

Punjab are looking to bounce back from their eight-wicket loss to RCB in Qualifier 1 in Mullanpur, and a win here would send them to their first IPL final in 11 years, having last appeared in 2014.
