The young and fiery bowler, Digvesh Rathi, has once again found himself in the midst of controversy. The 25-year-old Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) debutant from Delhi, who was involved in a heated clash during his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2025, continues to attract attention for his on-field antics. Despite impressive performances with the ball, Rathi’s aggressive celebrations and dismissals have earned him a reputation as a “hothead” in the cricket world. Now, his controversial actions have once again cost him, this time in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025.

Digvesh Rathi’s Fine for Code of Conduct Breach

Rathi’s infamous reputation followed him into the DPL 2025 where, during an intense Eliminator clash against the West Delhi Lions on August 29 (Friday), he was involved in an ugly altercation with the Lions’ captain Nitish Rana. The altercation led to Rathi being slapped with a massive fine for his breach of the Code of Conduct.

According to a statement from the Delhi Premier League, Rathi was fined 80% of his match fees for his conduct, which was deemed to be contrary to the spirit of the game. The DPL specified that Rathi’s conduct fell under Article 2.2 (Level 2), which relates to a player’s behavior that is disrespectful or aggressive in nature.

Other Players Also Penalized in DPL 2025 Clash

The heated match saw several other players also being penalized for their actions. West Delhi Lions’ captain Nitish Rana was fined 50% of his match fees for an infraction under Article 2.6 (Level 1), which involves using obscene or insulting gestures during the match.

In addition to these two, several other players were handed fines for their misconduct during the match:

  • Krish Yadav, the West Delhi Lions wicketkeeper, was fined a 100% penalty on his match fees after using audible obscenity and pointing his bat toward an opposing player.
  • Aman Bharti was fined 30% of his match fees for using audible obscenity during the game.
  • Sumit Mathur was fined 50% of his match fees for actions, language, or gestures that could provoke aggression from the opposing team.

Despite all the drama, Rathi’s performance in the DPL 2025 wasn’t great either. He ended the tournament with just 4 wickets in 9 innings, with a disappointing economy rate of 10.20.

Conclusion

Digvesh Rathi’s journey in the Delhi Premier League has been filled with controversy, and his latest incident only adds to his growing list of disciplinary breaches. With multiple fines and penalties handed out, it’s clear that Rathi’s fiery temperament is catching up with him. Whether or not he can rein in his aggression will be crucial if he hopes to make an impact on the international cricket stage in the future.
