In a season filled with challenges, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered yet another blow as wicketkeeper-batter Vansh Bedi has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 due to a ligament tear in his left ankle. To fill the void, CSK has signed Gujarat’s Urvil Patel as his replacement.
Vansh Bedi’s Injury Ends His IPL 2025 Campaign
Bedi, who was picked up by CSK for INR 55 lakh in the IPL 2025 auctiodn, had shown immense promise with his aggressive batting and spin-hitting abilities. Unfortunately, a serious ankle injury has sidelined him for the rest of the season, marking a disappointing end to his campaign before it could gain momentum.
This comes as another blow to CSK, who are already coping with the absence of key players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, also ruled out earlier due to an elbow injury.
Urvil Patel: A Power-Hitter Joins CSK
To replace Bedi, CSK has brought in Urvil Patel, the 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Gujarat. Patel grabbed national attention during the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he smashed a blistering 28-ball century-the fastest T20 hundred by an Indian.
Although he went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, his consistent domestic performances made him an ideal candidate for a mid-season call-up. With CSK already out of playoff contention, the team will now look to give Patel valuable exposure at the top of the order. His explosive batting and reliable wicketkeeping reflect the franchise’s vision for the future.
Urvil Patel’s T20 Career Overview:
Matches: 47
Runs: 1,162
Strike Rate: 170.38
Centuries: 2
Fifties: 4
With Urvil Patel’s inclusion, CSK aims to inject fresh energy into their lineup as they shift focus to rebuilding and planning for IPL 2026. While the current season has been disappointing, the franchise will look to finish on a high note and bounce back stronger in the next edition of the tournament.
