Australia’s rising all-rounder Cameron Green is set to resume his bowling duties in the upcoming Sheffield Shield season, giving the Aussies a significant boost ahead of the Ashes 2025/26 series at home. After a lengthy recovery period, Green appears close to returning to full fitness as an all-rounder, something that could pose serious challenges for the English side.

Green, who has been sidelined from bowling for some time due to injuries, is gradually working his way back. In a recent training session during the ongoing series against South Africa, he bowled around 36 deliveries in the nets, a sign that his return to full bowling duties may be just around the corner.

“In the past, it’s worked really well when I’ve focused on Shield cricket,” Green told Cricket.com.au.
“That potentially might be the way to go, especially with [me] working my way back to bowling, to potentially get a few more overs over a few more days. I think that might be the way we go.”

Green’s Return as a Bowler Could Shift Ashes Dynamics

Green’s return to bowling adds a new layer of depth to the Australian squad. Known for his pace and bounce, his inclusion as a fifth bowling option can relieve pressure from the main bowlers and provide more balance to the side.

More importantly, it makes him a complete package—an all-rounder who can bat in the top order and also contribute meaningfully with the ball. If fit, Green could be a key weapon in Australia’s arsenal when they host England later in the year.

“I’m going really well. I’m not quite certain on what match [my return to bowling] is, but I’m feeling really good and I’m in a really good spot. It’s just really exciting. It’s been a long road back,” Green added.

Despite a challenging World Test Championship (WTC) Final against South Africa, where he was promoted to No.3 but failed to make an impact, Green has shown signs of improvement with the bat. On tough Caribbean pitches during the recent West Indies series, he posted scores of 52, 46, and 42, showing resilience and intent.

Commenting on the batting conditions, he acknowledged the difficulty of the wickets, but also saw the value in surviving and scoring in such testing environments.

“I don’t think we’ll be playing on many wickets quite like that [this summer], so I don’t think there’s too many takeaways,” Green said.
“It was such a tough wicket, especially for the batters, to try and get out of the series unscathed was a good effort.”

Conclusion:
Cameron Green’s return to bowling couldn’t have come at a better time for Australia. As the Ashes 2025/26 series draws closer, having a fully fit Green—capable with both bat and ball—could significantly tilt the balance in Australia’s favour, especially on home soil.
