Bangladesh have made a significant change ahead of their upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, dropping Najmul Hossain Shanto from the squad after a prolonged lean patch. The three-match series is set to begin on July 10, with subsequent games scheduled for July 13 and July 16.
Shanto Dropped After Poor Run of Form in 2024
Former T20I skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has been excluded from Bangladesh’s squad following a disappointing run throughout 2024. In 21 matches this year, Shanto managed an average of just 18.84, struggling to make an impact at the top of the order. Overall, his T20I strike rate of 109.06 has also come under scrutiny, especially in modern T20 standards that demand aggressive scoring.
He has been replaced by left-handed opener Mohammad Naim, who impressed with his performances in the recent Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Naim’s strong domestic form has earned him a well-deserved recall as Bangladesh look to reshape their top order.
Taskin, Mustafizur, and Saifuddin Return to Bolster Pace Attack
Bangladesh’s pace unit gets a major boost with the return of Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, both of whom are currently involved in the ongoing ODI series in Sri Lanka. All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin has also been added to the T20I squad, adding more depth to the bowling options.
Among the spinners, left-arm orthodox bowler Nasum Ahmed has been brought back into the squad, replacing Tanvir Islam.
Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das will continue to lead the side, with several young faces retained as Bangladesh prepares for a competitive outing against Sri Lanka.
