Arshdeep Singh, India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is with an impressive 101 wickets, has been a mainstay in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and a key figure in India’s cricketing success. Despite his stellar record and consistent performances, he has found himself out of the playing XI in recent matches, causing a stir among fans and experts alike. This latest development raises serious questions, especially with the T20 World Cup just around the corner.

Arshdeep Singh’s Consistent Performance & Surprising Benchings

Arshdeep has long been one of India’s most reliable pacers in T20I cricket, regularly delivering match-winning performances. He played a crucial role in India’s victorious T20 World Cup campaign last year, and his wicket-taking ability has been unmatched, making him India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is. With 101 wickets to his name, he’s not only a key figure in India’s T20I setup but also the only Indian bowler to cross the 100-wicket mark in this format.

However, in recent times, Arshdeep’s presence on the field has been minimal. He was sidelined for India’s first T20I against Australia in Canberra, which was washed out due to rain. In his place, Harshit Rana was chosen over him, sparking confusion and disappointment among fans and cricketing experts.

Expert Reactions to Arshdeep’s Ongoing Non-Selection

The non-selection of Arshdeep has drawn reactions from former cricketers, with many questioning the decision. Priyank Panchal, a former state cricketer who recently retired from professional cricket, voiced his concerns on social media. Panchal expressed his surprise at India leaving out their highest wicket-taker in T20Is, especially with a World Cup just months away.

“The number of countries that’d leave their highest wicket-taker in a format out of the XI so consistently with a World Cup coming up in four months is very limited. Arshdeep deserves better treatment,” Panchal said on X (formerly Twitter).

Former RCB and KKR batter, Shreevats Goswami, also shared his bewilderment, questioning why Arshdeep had been overlooked in favor of Harshit Rana. Goswami was also puzzled by the exclusion of Rinku Singh, a player who had not done anything wrong to justify his omission.

“Unless he hasn’t recovered, I don’t see any reason to pick Harshit Rana before Arshdeep Singh. Baffling! Also, Rinku Singh not finding a place without doing anything wrong. Tough calls,” Goswami wrote.

Arshdeep Singh’s Future in the Indian Team

The decision to leave out a player of Arshdeep Singh’s caliber raises questions about the team’s selection strategy, especially as the T20 World Cup looms large. While Arshdeep’s recent non-selection may be a tactical move by the team management, many believe his experience and wicket-taking ability could be crucial for India in high-pressure situations during the World Cup.

With the second T20I against Australia set to be played at the MCG on October 31, cricket fans and experts will be eagerly watching to see whether Arshdeep is included in the playing XI or if his exclusion persists. The coming weeks will likely determine his role in India’s T20 World Cup campaign and whether he can bounce back into the squad after this puzzling spell on the sidelines.

In the meantime, the Indian team faces an interesting challenge: balancing team strategy with the undeniable form and value Arshdeep brings to the table. As the World Cup draws closer, these decisions could prove pivotal in determining India’s chances of success on the global stage.
