Indian domestic cricket witnessed an extraordinary day as multiple batting records were shattered on the opening day of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Explosive centuries from Sakibul Gani and Ishan Kishan, combined with Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s breathtaking knock, turned Wednesday into one of the most memorable days in List A cricket history.

Sakibul Gani Smashes Fastest List A Century by an Indian

Sakibul Gani etched his name into the record books by scoring the fastest List A century by an Indian, reaching the milestone in just 32 balls. Playing for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh in a Plate League match at Ranchi, Gani’s knock powered Bihar to a staggering 574 runs, one of the highest totals ever recorded in List A cricket.

With this effort, Gani now sits just behind Jake Fraser-McGurk and AB de Villiers on the all-time list of fastest List A centuries worldwide. Remarkably, his record-breaking hundred came only minutes before another Indian batter, Ishan Kishan, joined him on the elite list, underlining how special the day was for Indian cricket.

Adding to the historic nature of the occasion, three of the four fastest List A centuries by Indians were achieved on the same day, across two venues—Ranchi and Ahmedabad—a rare and unprecedented feat.

Ishan Kishan and Vaibhav Suryavanshi Light Up Ahmedabad

Soon after Gani’s heroics, Ishan Kishan claimed the second spot on the list of fastest Indian List A centuries, reaching his hundred in 33 balls for Jharkhand against Karnataka in Ahmedabad. Coming in at No. 6 in the 38th over, Kishan wasted no time, racing to a half-century in 20 balls before unleashing a brutal assault that included 14 sixes and seven fours. He eventually finished with 125 off just 39 balls, as Jharkhand posted a massive 412 for 8.

This knock came on the back of a sensational run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where Kishan captained Jharkhand to the title, topped the run charts with 517 runs, and smashed 33 sixes, the most in the tournament. His form also helped him force a comeback into India’s T20I squad ahead of the New Zealand series and the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Earlier in the day, young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi set the tone with an electric 190 off 84 balls, featuring a blistering 36-ball century. His innings, combined with the feats of Gani and Kishan, ensured the opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 will be remembered as a landmark moment in Indian domestic cricket.
