Yashasvi Jaiswal remains one of India’s most exciting young talents in T20 cricket, yet the incredible depth in the national setup has kept the 23-year-old out of the T20I side for more than 15 months. Despite averaging 33 with a strike rate above 150 in overall T20s—and an even better T20I record with a 36 average, 164 strike rate, and one century—Jaiswal continues to wait behind current preferred openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill.
His numbers reflect the quality he brings, but competition for spots has never been higher. Still, Jaiswal remains optimistic and focused on his long-term goals.
Jaiswal Dreams of Playing the T20 World Cup
Speaking at the Agenda Aaj Tak conclave, as reported by The Indian Express, Jaiswal shared his desire to represent India in the T20 World Cup someday. “My dream is to play T20 World Cup but I try to focus on my game and will wait for my time,” he said. His mindset reflects patience and determination, key traits for any youngster navigating a star-studded lineup.
The left-hander has been in strong form recently, scoring his maiden ODI century in just his fourth match. That innings also gave him the chance to bat with legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, forming 100-run partnerships with both.
Learning From Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
Jaiswal described the experience of batting with the two icons as a privilege. He highlighted how their presence brings confidence to younger players and how their insights help him grow. “When they are there, it is great for us as they discuss the game. They share their experiences,” he said, calling them an inspiration due to their intensity and winning mindset.
He also recalled advice from both senior players during the recent ODI. Rohit encouraged him to stay calm and take his time while taking risks himself, something Jaiswal deeply appreciated. Kohli, meanwhile, gave him smaller targets and emphasized the importance of finishing games.
Their mentorship, he said, provides a sense of comfort. “When they aren’t there, we all miss them. If they are there, we all feel relaxed,” he added.
