Mitchell Claims Top Spot in ODI Batting Rankings

New Zealand star Daryl Mitchell has climbed to the No. 1 position in the ICC ODI batting rankings, ending Rohit Sharma’s brief stint as the oldest player ever to hold the top spot. Mitchell’s rise comes shortly after his outstanding 119-run knock against West Indies in Christchurch, an innings that boosted his ODI average to an impressive 53.13.

His recent form has been nothing short of exceptional. Mitchell’s last four ODI scores—119, 44, 56*, and 78*—highlight his consistency, and across his last nine ODI innings, he is averaging a remarkable 78.00, making him the most in-form batter in the format.

Despite this surge, Mitchell leads Rohit by only a single rating point. With India preparing for a three-match ODI series against South Africa starting November 30, the Indian skipper will have a strong chance to reclaim the top position.

Indian and International Movements in ODI Rankings

Behind Mitchell and Rohit, Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran holds the No. 3 spot. India continues to dominate the top 10 with Shubman Gill (4th), Virat Kohli (5th), and Shreyas Iyer (8th) all featuring prominently. Meanwhile, the returning Quinton de Kock has already surged to 12th place after a stunning comeback series where he scored 53, 123*, and 63.

In the bowlers’ rankings, the top five remain unchanged. Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed is the biggest mover, jumping 11 spots to break into the top 10 at 9th place. India’s Kuldeep Yadav (6th) continues to be the country’s top-ranked ODI bowler, while Rashid Khan retains his position as the No. 1 ODI bowler in the world.

Among all-rounders, Axar Patel (9th) is the only Indian in the top 10, and Azmatullah Omarzai leads the overall all-rounder rankings.
