Ravindra Jadeja continued his record-breaking run on Day 2 of the India-South Africa first Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on November 15. Already celebrated for becoming the fourth player in history to achieve the double of 4,000 runs and 300 wickets in Tests, Jadeja added two more milestones to his illustrious career.
Jadeja Reaches 150 WTC Wickets and 250 Home Test Wickets
The 36-year-old all-rounder, recently confirmed to join the Rajasthan Royals after 13 years with the Chennai Super Kings, showcased his match-winning abilities with the ball. Jadeja picked four crucial wickets in South Africa’s second innings, bringing India close to victory.
With his 13-over spell, he not only reached 150 wickets in the World Test Championship (WTC)—joining Nathan Lyon and Ravichandran Ashwin as the only spinners to achieve this—but also took 250 wickets in home Tests, a feat accomplished only by Anil Kumble, Ashwin, and Harbhajan Singh before him.
India’s Top Wicket-Takers in Home Tests
- 383 – Ravichandran Ashwin (2011–2024)
- 350 – Anil Kumble (1993–2008)
- 265 – Harbhajan Singh (1998–2013)
- 250* – Ravindra Jadeja (2012–present)
- 219 – Kapil Dev (1978–1994)
South Africa Struggle Against Indian Spin Attack
Jadeja’s efforts helped reduce South Africa to 60/5, but the visitors fought back slightly, losing two more wickets by the end of the day. Axar Patel dismissed Kyle Verreyenne, and Kuldeep Yadav accounted for Marco Jansen. South Africa finished Day 2 at 91/7, leading by just 61 runs, leaving India in a commanding position.
Jadeja’s performances continue to cement his legacy as one of the greatest all-rounders in modern Test cricket, demonstrating why he remains a key player for India both at home and abroad.
