Afghan Star Achieves Milestone in Just 115 Matches
Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has added another feather to his already glittering cap, becoming the second-fastest spinner in ODI history to reach 200 wickets. The 27-year-old leg-spinner achieved the feat in just 115 matches, surpassing Australian legend Shane Warne, who had reached the same milestone in 125 games.
Rashid’s latest achievement came during the first ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh, held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. His remarkable bowling performance saw him take three crucial wickets, dismantling the Bangladeshi middle-order and helping his team take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Saqlain Mushtaq and Mitchell Starc Still Lead the Pack
While Rashid is now the second-fastest spinner to 200 ODI wickets, the record for the quickest spinner still belongs to Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq, who achieved the milestone in just 104 matches. Overall, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc holds the title for the second-fastest bowler across all styles, reaching the landmark in 102 ODIs.
Shane Warne had reached his 200th ODI wicket in what turned out to be the 1999 World Cup final, a memorable match where Australia lifted the trophy after a 12-year gap by defeating Pakistan.
In the match against Bangladesh, Rashid’s spell proved decisive. He dismissed captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 60, followed by the quick wickets of Jaker Ali (10) and Nurul Hasan (7). All three wickets came in a tight spell of just six overs for 20 runs, effectively crippling the Bangladeshi batting lineup.
As a result, Bangladesh could only manage a below-par total of 221 runs in 48.5 overs. Afghanistan comfortably chased the target, winning the game with five wickets in hand and more than three overs remaining. With this win, they now lead the series 1-0 and have momentum on their side going into the next fixture.
