Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh is reportedly being considered for the position of BCCI President, according to a recent report by Cricbuzz. While there is no official confirmation from the veteran spinner yet, sources indicate that the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has proposed his name for the top administrative post in Indian cricket.

Harbhajan Singh Could Enter BCCI Administration

Harbhajan Singh, one of India’s most successful spinners, might be transitioning from the cricket field to the boardroom. Although he hasn’t issued a public statement yet, reports suggest that his nomination could be filed soon. The development comes after earlier speculation that cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar could take up the role, though his camp has denied any such move.

If Harbhajan accepts the nomination and goes through with the process, he would potentially take over from Rajiv Shukla, who is currently serving as the interim president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The position became vacant after Roger Binny stepped down upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70, as per BCCI’s constitution.

Key Dates for BCCI Election Process

As per BCCI electoral officer AK Joti, the nomination window for the BCCI elections is open from September 20 to 21. Candidates can withdraw their names until September 23, and the final list of candidates will be published after that. The election itself is scheduled for September 28.

In line with BCCI’s election protocols, nominees are required to submit an Information Sheet (Form C). This form must list all previous and current elective posts held in the BCCI or any of its full members. The document must be signed by the representative and attested by a notary or oath commissioner.

Why This Matters

The role of BCCI President is one of the most influential in world cricket, and the entry of a former player like Harbhajan Singh could bring a fresh perspective to Indian cricket administration. His vast experience on the field and close ties with current and former players might also help bridge the gap between the board and the dressing room.

As the nomination deadline approaches, all eyes will be on whether Harbhajan officially throws his hat in the ring. If he does, it could mark a significant shift in how Indian cricket is governed.
