Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has firmly denied any involvement or interest in running for the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), dismissing recent media speculation as completely unfounded.
Sachin Tendulkar Issues Strong Denial Through Management
Amid growing rumors ahead of the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 28, Tendulkar’s management company, SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd, released an official statement on Thursday addressing the issue.
“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations.”
The clarification puts an end to widespread reports linking the former India captain with the high-profile role, which has been in the spotlight following recent changes in the BCCI leadership.
Key BCCI Roles Up for Election at September AGM
The upcoming AGM will see elections for several key positions, including:
- President
- Vice-President
- Secretary
- Joint Secretary
- Treasurer
- IPL Chairman
The position of President is drawing the most attention, especially after Roger Binny stepped down earlier this month upon turning 70, which is the age limit for BCCI administrators.
Similarly, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal may also be required to vacate his post due to the completion of a mandatory six-year tenure in cricket administration, which triggers a cooling-off period.
Most other key officials, however, are expected to retain their posts. Current Secretary Devajit Saikia—who succeeded Jay Shah after Shah took over as ICC Chairman—is likely to continue. Both Joint Secretary Rohan Gauns Dessai and Treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhati are also expected to stay on.
Final Candidates to Emerge Soon
The last date for state cricket associations to nominate their representatives for the AGM is Friday, September 12. These nominations will likely offer more clarity on who will be contesting for the BCCI’s top administrative roles.
As of now, Sachin Tendulkar has made it clear—he is not one of them.
