In a significant update ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium has been removed from the list of venues due to safety concerns. The iconic stadium has been replaced by DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, which continues to rise as a key destination for women’s cricket in India.

ICC Cites Safety Standards as Reason for Venue Change

Originally shortlisted as one of the five venues for the Women’s ODI World Cup, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has failed to meet the required safety standards. As a result, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided that it cannot host any matches of significant importance in the upcoming tournament.

Jay Shah, ICC Chair, addressed the venue change in a recent statement, saying:
“While unforeseen circumstances required us to adjust the schedule and replace a venue, we are pleased to now have a line-up of five world-class venues that will showcase the very best of the women’s game.”

The decision is viewed as necessary to maintain the integrity, safety, and overall quality of the tournament, which is returning to India after a 12-year hiatus.

The addition of DY Patil Stadium further cements Navi Mumbai’s position as a modern hub for women’s cricket. The city has been instrumental in supporting the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and various international fixtures, creating an electrifying atmosphere for players and fans alike.

“Navi Mumbai has emerged as a genuine home for women’s cricket in recent years. The support it has received during international fixtures and the Women’s Premier League has been remarkable,” Shah added. “I am certain that the same energy will define the big matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.”

The revised list of venues for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 now includes:

  • DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai
  • ACA Stadium, Guwahati
  • Holkar Stadium, Indore
  • ACA-VDCA Stadium, Visakhapatnam
  • R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo (Sri Lanka)

The tournament will kick off on September 30 and run until November 2, 2025. The first semifinal will take place on October 29 in either Guwahati or Colombo, while the final will be held in Navi Mumbai or Colombo, depending on scheduling and logistics.

As anticipation builds for one of the biggest events in women’s cricket, the ICC is confident that this edition will be a landmark moment, potentially reshaping the future of the women’s game both in India and globally.
