Bangladesh delivered a dominant all-round performance to crush Sri Lanka by 83 runs in the second T20 International (T20I) at Dambulla on Sunday, July 13. This emphatic win marks Bangladesh’s second-biggest margin of victory in T20Is, and their largest ever against a full-member nation.

After being asked to bat first, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 177/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Liton Das anchored the innings with a composed 76 off 50 balls, while Shamim Hossain added valuable impetus with a quickfire 48 from 27 deliveries. The duo’s contributions laid the foundation for a strong finish, ensuring the visitors had a defendable score on the board.

Bangladesh Bowlers Dominate as Sri Lanka Collapse

In reply, Sri Lanka’s batting order crumbled under pressure, getting bowled out for just 94 runs in 15.2 overs. Only Pathum Nissanka (32) and Dasun Shanaka (20) reached double figures in a disappointing chase.

Bangladesh’s bowling unit delivered a clinical display, led by Rishad Hossain, who spun through the middle order with figures of 3 for 18. He was ably supported by Shoriful Islam and Mohammad Saifuddin, both of whom picked up two wickets each to dismantle the Sri Lankan lineup.

Historic Win for Bangladesh in T20Is

This victory ranks among Bangladesh’s most significant in T20I history:

  • 84 runs vs PNG, Al Amerat, 2021
  • 83 runs vs Sri Lanka, Dambulla, 2025
  • 80 runs vs West Indies, Kingstown, 2024
  • 77 runs vs Ireland, Chattogram, 2023
  • 71 runs vs Ireland, Belfast, 2012

The win levels the three-match series at 1-1, after Sri Lanka claimed the first match in Pallekele by seven wickets. With momentum on their side, Bangladesh will look to seal the series in the decider on Wednesday, July 16, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Fans can expect an exciting finish to what has been a competitive and entertaining T20I series so far.
