Shubman Gill has etched his name into Indian cricket history with an unforgettable performance at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Playing a crucial role in India’s first-ever Test win at the venue, Gill scored a staggering 430 runs across two innings, earning the Player of the Match award in a game India won convincingly by 336 runs.

Leading the team as captain, the young star showed maturity well beyond his years. His batting display wasn’t just about the numbers — it was about the way he batted: confidently, gracefully, and with complete control.

Former England cricketer Jonathan Trott, watching from the commentary box, couldn’t hide his admiration. Speaking on JioStar, Trott said he felt privileged to witness such a high-class innings.

“I honestly feel privileged to be here and witness that innings. I can’t recall him giving the English bowlers even a single chance. The way he shifted gears — hitting sixes at will — without slogging, just pure cricket shots, was something special,” Trott remarked.

He didn’t stop there. Trott went on to make a massive comparison, likening Gill to former Indian number four and modern-day legend Virat Kohli.

“Today, he showed how complete a batter he is. It reminded me of the previous Indian number four — almost a carbon copy of that genius.”

Gill’s Red-Hot Form in the England Series

Gill’s Edgbaston heroics are part of a dream start to the England Test series. In just his first four innings, he has already scored 585 runs, including two centuries and a double century. His consistency and ability to dominate high-quality English bowling in their home conditions has been remarkable.

With three more Test matches left in the series — and potentially six innings still to play — the 24-year-old looks set to challenge long-standing records.

As India celebrates its historic victory at Edgbaston, all eyes will now be on Gill as he continues his sensational form and leads the Indian charge in the remainder of the series.
