England’s premier left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone is back in the England women’s T20 International squad for the five-match series against India starting June 28 in Nottingham. After taking a break to focus on her mental health, Ecclestone’s return strengthens England’s spin attack ahead of an important summer of cricket.

Spin Battle Intensifies as Sarah Glenn Misses Out

With Ecclestone’s return and left-arm spinner Linsey Smith impressing in the recent West Indies series, England has dropped leg-spinner Sarah Glenn from the squad. Head coach Charlotte Edwards highlighted the challenge of selecting from a talented group of spinners.

“We’re thrilled to have Sophie back — she brings valuable skills to the team,” Edwards said. “Unfortunately, that means Sarah Glenn misses out this time. It’s a strong group, and not everyone can be included. This is a great chance for Sarah to get competitive cricket with The Blaze in the Vitality Blast and come back stronger.”

Apart from the spin changes, pacer Lauren Filer is back in the squad, while former captain Heather Knight remains sidelined due to a hamstring injury.

The series against India will be crucial preparation for England, with the ODI World Cup in India just around the corner in September. Edwards acknowledged the challenge ahead: “India is one of the best teams in the world, so these games will be a big test for us. We want to keep improving on what we saw in the West Indies series.”
